Baby Monitor Buying Tips

Most baby monitors operate on the frequencies 49 MHz, 900 MHz or 2.4 GHz. One of the problems is that many other electronic appliances also use these same frequencies and they can cause interference with each other. For example cordless telephones, WiFi networks and even microwave ovens can sometimes interfere with baby monitors.

There is also one other frequency 1.9 gigahertz which is also called DECT this has also been approved for baby monitors to work on. You will however, also find cordless phones working on the same frequency so you can still sometimes get interference. But, because there are less products using this there is less chance.

Check the frequency

As we stated above you should make sure that you check the frequency the baby monitor works on before purchasing and compared this with any equipment you may have at home. If you have a cordless phone and wireless network that both work on the 2.4 GHz frequency you may be safe looking at a monitor that works in the 49 MHz or 900 MHz range to reduce interference.

Do you need one or two receivers

Having an extra receiver may be very useful this is especially the case if you live in a two-story house so you can potentially leave one upstairs and one downstairs. When you are researching monitors check to see if they allow an extra receiver to be at added (or it may actually come with one already)

Rechargeable Batteries

Buying batteries can be an expensive business especially with a portable device like this. You should check out when researching monitors to see if you can use rechargeable batteries before making a purchase. Some will come with electrical outlets and you simply plug it into a socket in the nursery to give it power.

What Brands Sell Monitors

There are many different suppliers in this marketplace and you will hear names like Fisher-Price, Graco, Mobicam, Summer, Philips, Sony, and Safety 1st to name but a few.

All of these offer quality products and technology that will allow you to monitor your baby when sleeping at night or during the day.

There are a number of options you have as to whether to just have audio or audio and video. Some also come with light sensors that switch him as soon as there is movement in the room or they react to a crying baby.

Video Baby Monitor

When you start to set up a video monitor you need to make sure that the camera is picking up the sleeping area. Before you make a purchase decide whether you want one that has a wide angled range because not all of them necessarily how this capability. You also need to make sure all to transmit range and make sure that a signal can be received no matter where you are in your home.

Different channels

Some monitors come with a couple of different channels which you can switch to very easily. This is to ensure that if a neighbor has purchased the same product you can both use different channels so are not interfering with each other. This is a really good feature and it's important that you check before purchasing that you can switch channel.
